Young girl in wheelchair with man holding artwork photo DMD2005 brought together Jenae Eby (left), a high school student, and Jamie Autry, Director of the Art Department at the University of Alaska Southwest in Sitka, Alaska. This resulted in a longer-term meeting and ultimately a campus-wide show of Jenae’s artwork. Young girl petting a reptile with pet handler photo Alyssa Houston, a high school senior who would like to be a veterinarian, was mentored at the San Diego Zoo. She had the advantage of private tours of the zoo and its operations and a behind-the-scenes look at staff performing its jobs.
Group of people standing on steps photo Students from area high schools were mentored at SunTrust in Atlanta, Georgia, where their job-shadowing also incorporated guidance in resume writing and interview techniques. A highlight of the day was when they got to meet NASCAR driver Wayne Taylor who drives for the SunTrust team. Woman talking to a man with a dog photo In Minnesota on DMD, a job fair is a key component of mentoring activities, and serves as the launching point for longer-term mentoring relationships that are initiated at the job fair. Two men shaking hands photo Mentee Tim Lurvey (left) was mentored by Bryan Edwards sheriff officer, at the Sheriff’s Office in Beaufort County, NC. Tim’s DMD experience included touring the jail and learning all aspects of being a sheriff.

Group photo Widespread DMD activities in Kosovo were coordinated out of the offices of the Little People of Kosovo. DMD billboards and posters were hung in 21 municipalities in Kosovo. As a result, more than 150 mentees participated in DMD2005 and the Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Health supported the DMD activities. The DMD committee organized four disability campaigns.
